Should you make a second email account for shopping?
A separate shopping email address is one of the easiest ways to keep retailer marketing away from your main inbox.
It also happens to be free.
So the first thing to say is simple:
A second Gmail account works.
You do not need a paid service just because stores send too much email.
The real question is whether you want another full email account or just somewhere for signup mail to land.
What a second Gmail account gives you
A second Gmail account is a real mailbox.
That means you get:
- sending
- replies
- folders and labels
- search
- contacts
- storage
- spam filtering
- recovery features
- an app experience designed for everyday email
If you expect to communicate from the account, that is useful.
If your goal is only to receive a coupon, verification link, receipt, or loyalty message, most of those features are unnecessary.
What a dedicated SpamBox gives you
A dedicated SpamBox is intentionally smaller.
It receives email.
You sign in when you need something.
It does not automatically forward marketing into your regular inbox. You can choose to send an individual sanitized copy to your verified account email.
It does not try to become another place where you live digitally.
That can be useful if your mental model is:
"This is the address I give stores."
rather than:
"This is my second email account."
Why pay for less?
Because sometimes less is the point.
A purpose-built signup inbox removes features because those features create more account management than this small problem requires.
At $9/year, the value is not advanced email technology.
It is having one steady address with one obvious purpose.
When Gmail is the better answer
Use a second Gmail account if:
- you want it free
- you want to send or reply
- you want long-term message storage
- you want a familiar full mailbox
- you already have a junk Gmail account that works well
SpamCatcher is not trying to convince those users to switch.
When a dedicated SpamBox may be better
A dedicated signup inbox may make sense if:
- you want one address specifically for noisy signups
- you do not want automatic forwarding
- you do not need outbound email
- you do not want to keep old promotional mail indefinitely
- you like a utility that has one job
The best system is the one you will actually use consistently.
If you already have a second inbox that solves this, keep it.
If you do not, a purpose-built SpamBox is another option.
